I once told a woman she should never take off her Lida Baday dress. It looked that good on her. It fit her perfectly. It was more than sexy. It was captivating.
I know this woman well, but I had never felt compelled to be so direct. The dress was just her. And more and more over the past few seasons, when I notice a woman for what she is wearing, she’s often wearing Lida. What gives?According to Jennifer Leavitt, owner and buyer for Blu’s, the magic is in all the places you can’t see. Baday, the daughter of a finicky dress maker with a well-deserved reputation for perfection, comes by her attention to detail honestly. Anyone can buy beautiful fabrics and they are worth every penny you’ll pay for them. But not everyone in the design world has the technical expertise of Lida Baday. She simply knows what she is doing with a piece of fabric. Think Da Vinci versus the doodles on your note pad.
But why are these construction details so appealing, especially to the opposite sex. The answer is a beautifully made dress moves with the wearer effortlessly, almost as if she is wearing nothing at all. Odd but true. When a garment fits properly and hugs the curves without splitting the seams you have the pairing of form and function that draws the best kind of attention. This is something that less expensive looks can never deliver.
